Frequently asked questions

Safe Harbor Notary offers convenient, mobile notary services throughout Jamestown, North Carolina, and the surrounding Piedmont region. We specialize in after-hours, weekend, and holiday appointments, providing affordable rates and exceptional service.

What types of locations are you willing to travel to?

Safe Harbor Notary is a mobile service willing to travel to various convenient locations such as your office, local coffee shops, public libraries, hospitals, assisted living facilities, hospice centers, jails/correctional facilities (with prior approval), police stations, and other agreed-upon public spaces throughout the Piedmont region of North Carolina. We aim to make notarization as accessible as possible for you. Travel to a private residence is at the discretion of the Notary.

Do all signers need to be present?

Yes, all individuals whose signatures require notarization must be physically present before the notary at the time of the appointment. This is a legal requirement to verify identities and witness signatures. This includes both sellers and buyers of vehicles.

What are acceptable forms of identification?

Acceptable forms of identification generally include a current, government-issued photo ID such as a state driver's license, state identification card, U.S. passport, or federal or state inmate identification card. Please ensure your ID is valid and unexpired. Temporary licenses are not acceptable forms of ID.

North Carolina extended the usage of expired driver's licenses. Can I use an expired license for a notarization?

Unfortunately, for notarization purposes, North Carolina law requires the identification to be current and unexpired at the time of the notarization. The state extension for general use does not apply to notary requirements.

Can I call you in the middle of the night with an urgent request?

Yes, Safe Harbor Notary specializes in time-sensitive and urgent appointments, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. While we aim to accommodate all requests, availability for immediate middle-of-the-night appointments may vary. Please call 336-541-6552 for urgent requests.

What information do I need to have with me for a successful notarization?

You will need the documents to be notarized (unsigned until in the notary's presence) and a valid, unexpired government-issued photo identification.

Do you provide EVN (Emergency Video Notarization), IPEN (In Person Electronic Notarization), or REN (Remote Electronic Notarization)?

Currently, Safe Harbor Notary provides traditional in-person mobile notarization services. We do not offer Emergency Video Notarization (EVN), In-Person Electronic Notarization (IPEN), or Remote Electronic Notarization (REN) at this time.

Which North Carolina counties do you serve?

We are proud to serve Guilford, Rockingham, Randolph, Montgomery, Moore, Chatham, Alamance, Orange, Durham, Wake, Caswell, Person, Stokes, Surry, Yadkin, Davie, Davidson, Forsyth, Rowan, and Cabarrus counties.

What unique benefits do you offer compared to other notaries?

Safe Harbor Notary stands out with unparalleled flexibility in scheduling, including after-hours, weekend, and holiday appointments. We offer extensive mobile coverage across the Piedmont region of North Carolina and maintain lower notary fees and mileage rates than many competitors. Our focus is on making notarization convenient and affordable for you.

Are there common misunderstandings about notary services I should know?

Clients should have all documents requiring notarization ready but *not signed* prior to the appointment. Additionally, a valid and acceptable photo identification for all signers is essential. Notaries with Safe Harbor Notary are not licensed to practice law in the state of North Carolina and may not accept payment for or provide legal advice.

How can I pay for services?

We offer easy payment options including cash, credit/debit card, and electronic payment methods. Payment is due at the time of service.

I need to have a document witnessed. Can the witness watch over a video call?

No, all signers - including witnesses - must be present in person at the time of notarization.
